The development of our Jira/Confluence estate in support of the water industry deregulation programme (Market Reform). We are looking for an experienced “guru / architect” to drive the adoption, maintenance, and expansion of the Atlassian toolset at United Utilities. We are heavy users of JIRA and Confluence and are in the process of implementing both BPM driven workflows and a JIRA Service Desk. Candidates must have not just experience in administering the JIRA environment but also designing workflows out of business requirements and designing workflow interacting with other backend systems using restful api's etc. The person in this position must have strong overall technical skills, while also having excellent customer service skills and strong organisational and prioritisation management skills.
This candidate needs to be flexible and someone who will flourish in a fast-paced and challenging environment. He or she should be a self-starter and have excellent motivation, leadership, and ingenuity to excel at this position.
The role holder will be required to work a number of levels and with varying accountabilities.
Working at a Project Level they will be responsible for:
Collecting and translating business priorities into technical requirements
Design, configure, manage, and support Atlassian tools, primarily JIRA.
Establish and promote best practices for the usage of Atlassian tools.
Help guide and maintain the organization of data in Atlassian tools.
Design and support custom JIRA workflows, fields, dashboards, and reports.
Work with business users to evaluate JIRA and Confluence plug-ins, determine licensing needs, performance testing, installation and configuration of the plug-ins.
Work with the server and database team to assure solid administration of the Linux servers and Oracle environments supporting the Atlassian tools.
Able to recognise and propose architectures which are ‘fit for purpose'
Work closely with UU IT Enterprise architecture team
Working with suppliers and project managers to impact assess solutions and inform the project planning process
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent understanding of JIRA workflows, permissions schemes, notification schemes, screen schemes, etc.
Experience with administering JIRA/Confluence
Excellent understanding of JIRA workflows, permission schemes, notification schemes, screens schemes, etc.
Demonstrable experiences in Unix and Linux environment
Demonstrable experience in installing, configuring and administering Atlassian plugins.
Experience configuring and maintaining application links between JIRA and Confluence as well as other applications.
Experience of costing solutions & basic commercial awareness
Strong customer focus and the ability to present technical information in a way in which makes sense to the business
A motivated self-starting personality, able to work independently while maintaining patience with constant interruptions and multiple requests.
Experience in a customer facing role
Excellent oral and written communication skill
Be able to work well in a pressured environment
Experience creating custom modules for JIRA/Confluence
Maintaining customisations across versions of JIRA/Confluence
Familiarity with databases and SQL competence
Demonstrable experience in writing scripts.
Prior experience in writing Atlassian plugins using Java.
Very good/solid knowledge of SDLC and experience working with Agile teams
Must have the right to work in the UK
