Role: Senior Lawyer (Regulatory/Enforcement)
Duration: 6 months+
Rate: £21.50 per hour (Negotiable)
This is a role in the Regulatory and Enforcement Team, therefore candidates must have significant experience of local authority prosecutions. Ideally candidates will also have experience of advising Licensing Committees in respect of taxi matters and Licensing Act 2003 applications, as well as dealing with Civil Penalty Notices in respect of housing related breaches.
Works effectively and with minimum supervision, managing a caseload of complex, high value and sensitive legal work relating to local authority regulatory law, including conducting and managing legal applications under relevant legislation and providing advice to clients in connection with the whole range of local authority regulatory legislation, regulations, guidance and policy.
Possess recent and extensive knowledge of local authority regulatory law (including environmental and regulatory offences, the Licensing Act 2003 and the provision of legal advice to local authority committees) and political sensitivity in relation to advising on the same.
Advocacy skills to represent the Councils in both contested and un-contested proceedings in a range of courts, but primarily in the Magistrates’ Court in connection with prosecutions and appeals against local authority decisions and notices.
To advise the Councils, its officers, members and external clients both verbally and in writing and to attend and advise Licensing Committee.
Demonstrate a knowledge of wider local government law and issues and ability to develop skills in these areas.
Candidates must have a practising certificate.
