Main Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement the initial requirements for Health and Safety policies that are fit for the department and successfully implement all further agreed policies; Deliver easily accessible expertise in all aspects of Health and Safety to colleagues as necessary; Proactively issue guidance and promote Health and Safety awareness and compliance at all levels of the organisation; Coordinate the effective communication understanding and implementation of new Health and Safety policies; Support line managers to reach complex or high risk decisions, supplying expert advice on a case-by-case basis on a wide range of Health and Safety matters; Document Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Within DSA HQ, the Defence Safety & Policy Assurance (DSPA) team is responsible for producing and maintaining Defence Policy for Health, Safety and Environmental Protection (HS&EP) and providing corporate strategic assurance across Defence. The DSPA team provide support to the wider DSA and other MOD organisations in promoting and implementing the law, Defence Policy and Defence Regulations worldwide.

DSPA is leading the Regulatory elements of the MOD-wide change programme following recommendations from the Head Office review of HS&EP to return strategic safety and environmental policy ownership to Head Office. This significant and complex delineation task requires personnel with an understanding of HS&EP, Policy skills and a strong demonstration of Civil Service Behaviours to result in effective performance.

This role will be essential to support the safety critical review of all DSA policy documents. Working with the DSPA team this will involve identifying obsolescent policy, conducting legislative reviews and ensuring consistency with MOD working practices and processes.

1. Safety critical review of H&S JSP's and DSA Document set.
2. Legislative review to identify MOD's derogations/exemptions/disapplications (DEDs).
3. Provide expert H&S advice on a case-by-case basis.
