Principal Lawyer – Planning and Highways

Salary: £51,356 to £56,494 + £3000 Market Rate Supplement
37 hours per week. Flexible hybrid working model. Candidates can be based further away but must attend meetings and committees as required. The council is likely to move towards a minimum office attendance expectation of around two days per month.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead on planning and highways legal matters.
- Provide specialist advice to internal stakeholders across the council.
- Support and mentor less experienced lawyers.
- Attend and advise at Planning Committees on a shared basis.
- Act as a senior specialist within the legal team.
Key skills required:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive.
- Significant planning and highways law experience.
- Ability to operate at Principal Lawyer level.
- Experience supporting or supervising junior colleagues.
